The bark has been stripped from the woods, and the wood sanded smooth, by hand, with several grades of sandpaper, before the ogham symbols have been pyrographed (burnt) into the wood. The wood is gathered largely from around the sacred landscape of Glastonbury with some woods found in Cornwall. The wood for each stave is gathered, rather than harvested to avoid damage or distress to the trees.
